The experience

Inside the blood rave.

A crowd of 1,000 entered a live version of the vampire nightclub from Blade. Film, live characters, dance performances and a headline set from The Crystal Method turned a screening into a world the audience could inhabit.

The night built to its defining moment: a theatrical blood shower that brought the film's opening sequence off the screen and into the crowd.

Lenny Platt conceived and led production of the event with BBQ Films, years before founding Project Mayhem Corporation. Blade Rave is part of the body of immersive production work behind PMC, alongside Ghostbusters HQ, the Mr. Robot Ecoin launch and A Tribute to Twin Peaks.

The record

A place in Blade Rave history.

BBQ Films announced its New York Blade Rave in June 2015, ahead of the October 9 event at Terminal 5 during New York Comic Con. Contemporary reporting documented both the production and the growing interest in bringing the film's blood rave into real life.

This archive brings the event's date, production credits, original announcement film and press together in one place. The cinematic inspiration is the opening nightclub sequence in Blade (1998); the live New York production documented here was conceived and lead-produced by Lenny Platt with BBQ Films.
